The Prayer Flag Project

If you're a member of the infant/child loss community, you know the name CarlyMarie or Christian's Beach.  She is a pioneer in the movement to speak out about loss, grieving, and love for a lost child.  She has done so much in the short time since her son Christian passed away.  I can only hope that someday I can honor my boys' names and memories the way she has done for Christian.

Coming up on August 19 is one of the next "special" days in the loss community, the Day of Hope.  This year, CarlyMarie has expanded to the the infertility community.  How fitting that I'm a member of both...

So leading up to this day, she has started a project for making Prayer Flags.  Last year, 350 members of the loss community sent flags to CarlyMarie in Australia for display and she took beautiful photographs.  This year, she's encouraging everyone to make and display their own prayer flags in a special place with an 8-week project.

I'm very much looking forward to creating these.  I am excited and inspired. I have so many thoughts going through my head about what I want to do for my boys...and for my unborn children (an infertility flag of sorts).  I'm thinking each year I will create flags for my boys...so eventually I will have a long prayer flag chain.  But this year, I'm thinking that I will create one for each my boys and for the babies who have touched my life.  I'm excited for this project.  Part of this project is determining where I will hang them...but as I get the boys' memory garden under way, I'm thinking that I will get some fun solar lights over the coming weeks and display them there...photograph them at different points of the day.

Now for the challenge...I am going to do my own series of flags, but for each of my loss momma friends, I encourage you to do the same...even if it's only one flag in your home.  For each of my family and friends...if you want to do a flag in memory of Samuel or Andrew, please do.  I will be VERY happy to include them!
